VIDEO: Olaplex No. 3 Review on Naturally Curly Hair

Olaplex Results on Curly Hair

Today I’m testing out Olaplex for the first time after hearing so much buzz about it in the naturally curly hair community. I was confused about what the product was and how it worked, because it’s

unlike and product on the market. It’s a treatment done in the salon, usually after your hair has been chemically process with color.

What is Olaplex?

From the Olaplex website, they describe it as:

“Our simple three-step process includes a patented active ingredient that works on a molecular level to seek out broken bonds in the hair that are caused by chemical, thermal, and mechanical damage. You can use Olaplex to restore compromised hair, or add it to another service to provide the ultimate breakage insurance.”

The Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfectoris the take home product, that provides lasting protection after salon treatments. Like many others question, you can use setup no. 3 at home without having received the initial Olaplex treatments.

I’ve been coloring my hair at the salon for years now, which can damage natural curls over time, causing them to lose their pattern. I had highlights done about a year ago, and have noticed that the highlighted curls are less defined, and have more of a stretched-out curl pattern. They also have more breakage and split ends, which is why I wanted to try out Olaplex at home.

How to use Olaplex No. 3 at home:

  1. Wet hair and detangle with conditioner if needed
  2. Towel dry hair
  3. Apply the product from roots to tips until saturated
  4. Leave in for about 20 minutes
  5. Shampoo, condition, and style as usual

Olaplex Before and After Results

Results:

I was impressed by the shine my hair had, it was soft, moisturized, and felt less tangled. In terms of damage, obviously I still have split ends because only a trim will get rid of them, however the ends of my hair curled up more than usual. I did noticed the highlighted pieces looked to have a tighter curl pattern, which was my goal with this product.

Does Olaplex Really Work?

I saw a noticeable difference, but I feel as though I need to use it a couple more times. Note that the before photos were taken on day 3 hair, where my curls are naturally less defined, and shrink up more once washed and restyled. However I did still noticed an improvement in my hair after using it.

Where to Buy:

Olaplex can be purchased from Sephora, their website, or from a salon.
