SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strong Hold Gel Review

Having a wash & go last almost an entire week WITHOUT refreshing sounds unheard of – I know, but I was shocked when I woke up to next day hair that was ready to go. If you’re looking for the strongest hold gel for naturally curly, frizzy hair, this one is definitely worth the try. This long lasting curly hair routine is not only affordable from the drugstore, but curly girl method approved of course. 🙂

SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strong Hold Gel

The SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strong Hold Gel contains ingredients that promote hair growth, strengthen the hair, and lock in frizz. I was intrigued by the main ingredient, corn syrup, which I believe is what provides so much hold. The gel creates an odd feeling on the hair when applying, but once dried it feels much better. I think those with fine curly hair need to especially be cautious with how much product they apply, and I recommend starting with a small amount.

My hair had a very, very strong gel cast after diffusing, but I was able to fluff my hair and shake some of it out. The strong gel cast is what is crucial for achieving long-lasting next day hair without refreshing.

Watch the video above to see how to use the SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strong Hold Gel on my 3B, fine curly hair.

How long does it last?

The first time I used it, I didn’t combine it with any other products and it held up for about 5 days. I typically wash my hair by day 3, so this was great and saved me time. In this video, I combined it with leave-in conditioner and curl cream for more moisture, which helped soften the hold. It still had amazing hold the next day, and I just needed to scrunch a little water on my ends. By day 3, I had to refresh my curls by adding a tad bit more product, but didn’t require much styling which saved me time.
