Fall & winter are my favorite times of the year because I’m finally getting a break from the Virginia summer humidity. I like to change up my beauty and personal care routine in the colder months, especially with the air being much dryer. Today, I’m sharing a few issues I tend to face during this season, and some adjustments I make to my daily routine for fall and winter!

Sensodyne Rapid Relief Whitening Tooth Paste

Teeth Sensitivity

I don’t know about y’all, but I LOVE a good cup of coffee. My day doesn’t officially start until I’ve had my coffee. When I get chilly in the office or need an afternoon pick me up, I love grabbing a cup of coffee to get me through the day, and sometimes I switch it up for tea or hot chocolate. However, as of lately, I’ve noticed my teeth have been more sensitive to hot (and cold) drinks, and it’s gotten to the point where I need to find daily relief moving forward.

I came across Sensodyne Rapid Relief Whitening Toothpaste at my local Kroger, that is designed to beat sensitivity pain fast.* Sensodyne is the #1 dentist recommended brand for sensitive teeth, and the new Rapid Relief Whitening Tooth Paste can relieve pain in 3 days* and provides long-lasting protection.

Sensodyne Repair & Protect Whitening Review

I have heard of Sensodyne toothpaste helping with sensitive teeth before, but I’ve been nervous about giving up my regular whitening toothpaste. Because I drink coffee daily, I prefer a whitening toothpaste to maintain a whiter smile between whitening treatments. With Sensodyne Rapid Relief Whitening, I don’t have to compromise a whiter smile to enjoy fast sensitivity relief, as it offers great whitening benefits too. After incorporating the toothpaste into my daily routine, after just a few uses, I noticed I didn’t have as much sensitivity when drinking cold water, and hot drinks.

Dry, Flaky Lips

Dry lips are a constant struggle in the winter, especially if you’re outside a lot in the chilly wind. I recommend using a homemade lip scrub, such as sugar and coconut oil to buff away the dead skin.

How to Fix Dry, Flaky Lips with Lip Scrub

I also tend to choose tinted lip balm and moisturizing lipsticks more than matte lipstick or long-wearing gloss in the colder months. Matte lip colors can really accentuate fine lines and flaky skin.

Apply a thick layer or lip balm or petroleum jelly at night before bed, and wake up with softer, hydrated lips.

Dry, Cracked Skin & Razor Burn

Dry cold air always leads to dryer skin for me. I love taking a hot bath once a week and soak in epsom salt, however super hot water can really dry out your skin. I love adding a bit of body oil to the bath water, and reducing the water temperature just a bit.

Exfoliating is also key in the winter, especially before shaving. I find that my legs tend to get irritated after shaving more in the winter with wearing tight pants and leggings, so exfoliating first makes a big difference. Removing dead skin first also helps you get a closer shave!

How to Fix Dry Elbows

Afterwards, I slather on a thick body butter, focusing on dry areas like elbows and knees. I also recommend applying body butter every night to your hands. I keep a mini jar of it at my desk at work and use it after I wash my hands.

I also tend to suffer from cracked heels, so I always use a pumice stone after my feet are softened from the bath. Then, I coat them in the body butter and put on thick socks. If you can stand to sleep in socks, leave them on overnight and you’ll wake up with soft heels.

Split Ends & Tangly Hair

Just like our skin, our hair also is more likely to get dry in the cold weather. While it’s nice to not battle the humidity with my naturally curly hair, but I still fight frizz from dry ends. I like to use more curl creams and butters this time of year, versus styling with just mousse or strong hold gel that can dry out your curls. I still love using gel to get a long-lasting style, but I look for gels that contain moisturizing ingredients like aloe to prevent dryness. I also like to apply a leave-in conditioner or curl cream first before using a gel.

Deep conditioning weekly is essential for preventing dry hair in the winter. I have a previous video I’ve done all about deep conditioning curly hair for beginners.

Tangly hair is also a huge issue for me when wearing sweaters, scarves, and coats. I also have a video about the various causes of tangles and breakage, and ways you can prevent them.

Those are the various ways I like to alter my typical daily personal care routine for the colder weather. What are some ways you adjust your routine?

And don’t forget to give Sensodyne Rapid Relief Whitening toothpaste a try to ensure you can enjoy all the seasonal cold and hot beverages without sensitivity!
