One of the most requested brands that I review is Twist, a new brand created by Ouidad! Today I’m putting it to the ultimate test, seeing how well these products hold up in humidity and sharing my results each day throughout the week up through day 5.
Twist is a new curly haircare brand available at drugstores or from their website here. Just like its parent brand Ouidad, some of their products contain water-soluble silicones, while others are fully CGM-friendly. I am reviewing a clarifying shampoo, deep conditioner, curl cream, and gel. Many of the products are designed for humidity and weather conditions, so I had to put them to the test.
I first tried them when I was on vacation at the beach in NC, where it rained just about every day and was 70-90% humidity at times. I almost brought my tried-and-true Ouidad Advanced Climate Control Stronger Hold Gel, but wanted to see if the Weather Up Gel from Twist could truly be a more affordable dupe. I was shocked at how well my hair held up with very minimal refreshing and in the windy, humid conditions. However, I did protect my curls in a scarf as much as possible when laying on the beach.
Wash Day Routine
- Shampoo with the Twist Hit Reset Light Clarifying Shampoo
- Deep condition for 5 minutes with the Twist Sunday Feels Deeply Hydrating Hair Mask. Rinse & wrap hair in towel.
- Spritz hair with water where needed, but not too much. Apply the Twist Weather Up Lotion all over.
- Apply the Twist Weather Up Gel thoroughly.
- Use a brush to define ringlets and clumps if desired.
- Scrunch hair with Hair Repear Towel to absorb any excess water.
- Apply another light layer of gel if needed to additional hold.
- Diffuse until dry. Fluff/scrunch once 100% dry.
This week, I put them to the test at home in the humidity and tracked my results through day 5. I have to say, I was impressed! I skipped refreshing on day 2, then did more of a medium-level refresh on day 3 by adding some additional product and diffusing, then on day 4-5 I just used some water and air-dried. The gel can be reactivated with just water and the cast will form once dry. The cast is fairly light and disappears once scrunched out.
Final Thoughts
Overall I was very pleased with the products and think they’re great quality for the price. I liked how the shampoo was very cleansing without being too drying. The mask did great at detangling and softening the hair. The cream did contain a water-soluble silicone which I overlooked on the ingredients list and noticed after I had used it. I would prefer to not use silicones but at least it will shampoo out with that Twist shampoo. The gel is great and is definitely one I’ll continue to use. If I had to choose, I do still prefer the Ouidad Advanced Climate Control Heat & Humidity Gel – Stronger Hold only because it holds up better on next-day hair and requires little touch-ups.
