Who doesn’t love a great smokey eye?! This Studio Gear Holiday Smokey Eye Palette makes it so easy to achieve! It has 4 basic colors that are perfect for a dramatic eye. The top left shadow is a sheer frosty white that works perfect to highlight the inner corners of your eyes. The top right shadow is a deep charcoal grey that has just the right amount of pigmentation for the perfect smokey crease color. It also blended out flawlessly! The bottom left shadow is a metallic gunmetal silver color that is unlike any shadow I own. The bottom right shadow is a sheer gold color that is great as a top coat, brow bone highlight, or even as a cheek highlighter! Lastly in the center there is a shimmery coral blush color that suits any skin tone. It also comes with a great guide on the top if you’re confused on what colors to use where!
To achieve this look:
1. Apply an eyeshadow primer.
2. Using a flat shader brush, apply the silver color all over the lid, avoiding the inner most corners of the eyes.
3. Apply the white shade to the inner corners, and slightly bring it to the bottom as well
3. Using a crease blending brush, apply the dark grey to the crease using windshield wiper motions. Avoid going too far inwards. Try keeping your eyes open to better judge the shape of your crease color.
4. Use a clean blending brush to apply the gold shade to the brow bone, and blend any harsh edges in the crease.
5. Using a pencil brush apply the dark grey to the lower lash line, connecting it to the top. Avoid going too far inwards.
6. Apply your favorite black eyeliner and mascara.
7. If needed, apply concealer to the outside of eyes to clean up any over blending. I like to imagine a line going from the outer corner of my eye up to the end of my brow, and avoid any shadow below that.
8. Using a blush brush apply the coral blush to the cheek bones, and blend up to the temples.
9. To highlight the cheekbones, apply the the gold eyeshadow with your finger to the top of your cheekbones, bridge of nose, and cupids bow.
10. Finish off with a matte nude/pink lip color, or any lip color of your choice.
Final thoughts:
Overall I would rate this product a 4 out of 5. I think it has a great combination of shadows to achieve an easy smokey eye that would look great on anyone. It’s also nice that it comes with a complimentary cheek color, that is really easy to blend and very pigmented. The white and the gold shadows were sheer and not pigmented, which may of been intentional for “topcoat” purposes to add shimmer. However they all can be flaky and have fall out. I think they would have applied a LOT better with an eyeshadow base underneath and/or wetting the brush first. I wore these shadows about 6 hours and did not experience any creasing.
