Best & Worst Curly Hair Products I Tried In 2025

In 2025, I tested a large number of curly hair products across real wash days, different routines, and different styling approaches. Some of those products earned a permanent spot in my routine. Others did not come close to delivering what the brand claims promised.

This post breaks down the best and worst products I tried in 2025, based on my personal results on my hair, with a clear comparison between what the brand claims and what actually happened when I used them.

These are products I tried for the first time this year. Some are new launches. Many are not new to the market, just new to me.

As always, this is not about labeling products as “good” or “bad.” A product not working for me does not mean it will not work for you. My goal is to explain why something didn’t work for my hair, what that likely means, and who it may work better for so you can make more informed decisions.

How I Evaluate Products

Before getting into the list, it’s important to understand how I test products, because this directly affects the results.

I look at:

  • Conditioning and slip
  • Hold and longevity
  • Frizz control over time
  • How a product performs on its own before layering
  • Whether the performance matches the brand’s claims

If a product claims it can replace conditioner, provide hold, eliminate frizz, or last multiple days, I evaluate it specifically against those claims.

The Worst Curly Hair Products I Tried in 2025

These products did not align with my hair’s needs or did not perform in line with what the brand claims advertised.

Olaplex Weightless Nourishing Mask (Fine–Medium Hair)

What it claims

  • Lightweight hydration through 5 washes (on virgin hair)
  • Instant volume that lasts all day
  • Reduces and prevents breakage even after 5 washes
  • Can be used in place of conditioner

My experience

  • My hair had a weird, waxy feeling after rinsing, no matter how long I rinsed
  • There was no slip and it did not condition my hair
  • I had to shampoo and rewash my hair after using it
  • Even conditioning after using this mask did not help

A major issue here is the claim that this can be used in place of conditioner. Based on my experience, it cannot. It did not leave my hair feeling conditioned at all.

Who this may work for

  • None, based on my experience and hair type

LolaVie Intense Repair Treatment

What it claims

  • Protects and repairs the look of hair aging and damage
  • Locks in moisture without greasiness for silky hair
  • Smooths dry strands and maintains moisture
  • Follow with a conditioner if more hydration is preferred

My experience

  • No slip, making it difficult to apply and detangle after shampoo
  • My hair did not feel conditioned after rinsing
  • Adding conditioner helped, but personally I do not want a two-step process here

While the brand does acknowledge that you may need conditioner afterward, the claims around moisture, smoothness, and silkiness did not match my results.

Who this may work for

  • Someone who wants strength and repair and does not need conditioning or slip from this step.

En Love Beauty Coconut Milk & Aloe Vera Moisture Crush Foaming Mousse

What it claims

  • Deeply hydrates
  • Soft, manageable curls
  • Eliminates frizz with no residue
  • For wash and gos or protective styles

My experience

  • No hold
  • Did not eliminate frizz and left a residue
  • Next day: very frizzy, sticky (not in a good texturized way), and tangled

Who this may work for

  • Coily, thick hair that does not rely on hold
  • Those who do not mind frizz or frequent refreshing

The Doux Gangster Wrap Foam

What it claims

  • Soft hold
  • Humidity resistance
  • Heat protection
  • Controls roots and new growth

My experience

  • No hold
  • Would not last in humidity
  • Next day: curls were clumped but frizzy and stretched

Who this may work for

  • Coily hair and protective styles that do not require hold
  • Anyone prioritizing softness and volume over longevity

Pattern Mousse

What it claims

  • Pillowy volume
  • Touchable hold
  • Crunch- and flake-free
  • Designed for 3B–4C hair
  • For wash and gos or protective styles

My experience

  • Initially seemed promising, but hold disappeared
  • Requires a gel, which then softens the gel’s hold
  • Next day: sticky and required frequent refreshing

The product does align with its “soft hold” claims, but it becomes a pointless step if you need longevity.

Who this may work for

  • Coily hair or protective styles that do not rely on strong hold
  • Anyone prioritizing softness and volume over definition longevity

Fenty Homecurl Cream

What it claims

  • Curl definition
  • Adds hold
  • Frizz control
  • Hydration
  • Split end repair
  • Crunch-free hold

My experience

  • Gave some hold, but not enough to last
  • Heavy formula
  • Very strong scent that lingered throughout the day
  • Next day: curls still looked decent, but frizz increased

The cream performed like a curl cream, but the claims around hold, frizz control, and split end repair did not align with my results.

Who this may work for

  • Coarse hair that prefers a very soft finish and does not mind frizz or refreshing

  • Thermal and UV protection
  • Soft, flexible cast
