Did you search for curly hair advice…and just leave with more confusion because everything you found contradicted itself? 🙋🏻‍♀️

“Don’t wash your hair too often”
→ “But avoid buildup”

“Curly hair needs lots of moisture”
→ “But too much moisture will reduce your hold”

“You need to balance protein & moisture”
→ “But too much protein will damage your hair”

No wonder people get overwhelmed.
No wonder so many give up.

The problem isn’t you.
It’s that most curly hair advice is shared as rules without context.

Every one of these statements can be true… depending on your hair, your routine, and your goals.
What actually matters is understanding the tradeoffs and how the pieces work together.

When you stop following blanket rules and start learning how washing, conditioning, and hold interact, curly hair gets a lot simpler — and way more consistent.

This is the reframe I teach as a Curl Coach.
Not more rules. Just clarity.

Do you usually wear a deep part, a short part, or no part at all?

Your part has everything to do with how much volume you get.

The longer and deeper your part is, the more your hair falls to the side.
And when hair falls to the side, volume drops.

Shorter parts create lift.
No part creates the most volume.

That’s why brushing straight up and letting the hair fall naturally is such an easy way to build root volume before you even start scrunching or diffusing.

A few simple guidelines:
Short part = more volume
No part = maximum volume
Brushing forward = hair falls in your face (unless you have bangs)
Brush up, let it fall, then decide where your part goes

This is one of those small adjustments that can completely change how your curls look without changing a single product.

Your Part Might Be Flattening Your Hair!

Did the Curly Girl Method actually work for you… or did it leave you confused and frustrated?

If CGM didn’t give you lasting results, it’s not because you did it wrong.

Most people followed the rules exactly…
but some of those rules work against each other.

You’re told to:
• wash less and use very gentle shampoos
• load up on moisture

When you combine those two things, hair often becomes over-conditioned.
It takes forever to dry.
It won’t hold.
It doesn’t last.

Then people are told to stretch wash days even longer…
and that’s usually when the burnout happens.

As a Curl Coach, I see this pattern all the time.
People didn’t fail the method — no one explained the tradeoffs.

There is a better way.
Clean hair, the right level of conditioning, and enough hold so curls actually last.
