Rosacea is skincare condition that approximately 16MM Americans are affected by. Most are women, people with fair skin, and adults ages 30-60 years old. Indications of rosacea are frequent redness of the skin, small red lines under the skin, or swollen warm skin. Rosacea can be caused by heat or cold weather, exercise, sun, wind, stress, or menopause.

Fortunately I have never experienced rosacea, but my mom has had it most of her life. Being a redhead, she has fair skin that is extremely sensitive. She is always asking me what makeup products and techniques she can use to conceal her redness. However, caking on face products can only make the skin look worse. She has large pores as well, so makeup only makes them look more visible.

But rosacea is actually treatable. Mirvaso, the only FDA-approved treatment for the persistent redness of rosacea, is hosting this sweepstakes to raise awareness of the treatment, encouraging people to Break Up with Your Makeup. Mirvaso works instantly and provides same-day results that last up to 12 hours before the redness returns.

There are more things you can do to help with rosacea:

  • Use sunscreen daily. This is a must for everyone no matter if you have rosacea or not. However

if you do have rosacea, look for a sunscreen that contain transparent zinc oxide and moisturizing ingredients, like niacinamide, and are fragrance- free and non-comedogenic.

  • Use facial products that are calming and gentle. Avoid products with harsh chemicals and fragrances that can irritate the skin and make it more red. Moisturizing products are also important to hydrate the skin and provide a barrier to outside irritants.
  • Drink plenty of water and eat clean. Drinking more water is not only good for your health, but can tremendously improve the appearance of your skin. Foods such as dairy, alcohol, sugar,  and yeast are known to trigger symptoms of rosacea. Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables will ensure your body gets the nutrients it needs to repair itself.
