Growing out your hair is a long process, and takes time. There are a few ways to grow your hair longer. These involve nourishing your body from within and giving it the nutrients it needs to grow faster from the roots. These methods also involve hydrating and strengthening your hair to prevent breakage and stop split ends from splitting further up the shaft, leading to shorter hair and slower growth. Here are 10 tips to grow longer, healthier, and stronger hair faster.
#1 Take biotin hair vitamins. The Reserveage Organics Keratin Booster Biotin Vitamins contain keratin, biotin, and resveratrol that restore your hair’s strength, volume, and shine. Keratin is a protein naturally found in the body that nourishes and repairs hair, nails, and skin.
#2 Eat healthy & drink plenty of water. Foods that are high in protein will strengthen your hair and promote new growth. Foods containing omega-3 fatty acids also will nourish hair and skin. Foods that help enhance hair growth include:
- Salmon
- Walnuts
- Oysters
- Sweet potatoes
- Eggs
- Spinach & kale
- Greek yogurt
#3 Get a trim at lest every 6-8 weeks. The only way to get rid of split ends is to cut them off. Getting frequent trims will remove the split ends, and prevent them from splitting further up the hair shaft. In turn, hair will appear longer as it continues to grow from the roots.
#4 Avoid washing your hair every day. Shampooing your hair removes its natural oils, that are designed to nourish strands. Hair that is lacking dry is more prone to breakage and split ends. If you have an oily scalp, try skipping shampooing your hair to train your hair to eventually produce less oil. Over oiliness is the hair’s response to dryness. Use dry shampoos to remove oil between washes.

#5 Use conditioning treatments. Coconut oil is amazing at hydrating and strengthening the hair. Let the jar of coconut oil soak submerged in hot water so it can turn to a liquid. Then, section hair off and apply generously, coating each strand and massage onto scalp. Let sit for at least 15 minutes, and shampoo and condition after like usually.
You can also use deep conditioning masks once a week. I prefer the Aveda Damage Remedy Intensive Restructuring Treatment or the NuMe White Truffle Hair Mask (use code “numefall50” for 50% off & Free shipping).
#6 Avoid sulfates and silicones. Sulfates strip your hair of natural oils and dry out your hair. They can irritate your scalp, and lead to thinning over time. Silicones can build up on you scalp and strands because they cannot be removed with sulfate free shampoo. For more info and how to determine if your products have sulfates or silicones, click here.
#7 Use scalp exfoliants. Buildup of dead skin, silicones, hair products can clog your pores and prevent hair growth. There are several DIY scalp treatments.
- Combine brown sugar and coconut oil
- Combine baking soda and shampoo (this is also a great cleanse to remove silicones)
- Combine honey, sugar, and vinegar
- Plain apple cider vinegar
#8 Avoid brushing when wet, be gentle with detangling. Breakage can happen so easily when combing and brushing your hair. Use a wide tooth comb or just your fingers to detangle your hair.
#9 Sleep with a silk hair cap or pillowcase. Friction while you’re sleeping can also lead to breakage. If you have naturally curly hair, this is also a great way to preserve your curls for the next day. A silk material does not snag or create friction on your hair like regular cotton can. Also, avoid sleeping with your hair up tight or wearing it up a lot in general. Wearing your hair up too tightly leads to breakage around the hairline.
#10 Avoid heat styling. This is a no-brainer, because using heat tools on your hair leads to split ends, breakage, and dryness. I have learned to love my hair natural without heat styling, and there are so many ways you can style your hair without using heat.
