How to Cover Your Scalp | Styling Techniques for Thin Curly Hair

Today’s video is a step-by-step styling routine sharing tips for covering your scalp and getting a fuller, more voluminous look. I include tips for thin, low density, and fine curly hair to make it appear thicker. I also share techniques to get a less defined part, cover cow-licks, and get more coverage in the crown area.

It’s important to note that it is not a bad thing to have thin or low density curls. Some people simple have thinner hair naturally, and it’s normal to see more of your scalp with low density hair. Especially if you have high porosity hair, because the raised cuticle causes the hair to stick to itself and stick to your scalp.

There are several things you can do to make your curls appear fuller if that is the look you’re going for.

  • Use a handheld mirror to check the back of your hair and ensure curls are properly separated and placed.
  • In the back area, pick up horizontal sections to prevent vertical clumps from causing parting down the back.
