Drugstore Curly Hair Routine using Curls & Uncle Funky's Daughter

Drugstore Curly Routine & Review of Curls & Uncle Funky’s Daughter

Back at it with another drugstore routine! I’ve been on the hunt for some good drugstore products to be able to recommend to y’all, and so far, I’ve liked what I’ve tried. If you saw my previous routines, I did here and here, I review products from Shea Moisture, Dove, Not Your Mother’s, and more.

For today’s talk-through wash day routine, I’m using products that can be found at Walmart (aside from my shampoo). I’m testing a curl cream from the brand Curls, and using the Uncle Funky’s Daughter gel. I’ve used that gel a handful of times and really enjoyed it. The 2 products mixed well together.

Here’s what I did…

Wash Day Routine Steps

  1. Dry detangle with a little oil. Learn how here.
  2. Shampoo with the Noughty Wave Hello Curl Defining Shampoo
  3. Deep condition for 20 minutes using the Hairitage Transforming Hair Mask. Rinse thoroughly with warm water & wrap in HairRepair Towel loosely.
  4. Spritz water on lengths of hair. Apply the Curls Creme Brule Whipped Curl Cream to the lengths of hair. Brush through with the Behairful Brush to evenly distribute the cream.
  5. Apply the Uncle Funky’s Daughter Curly Magic Curl Stimulator evenly and scrunch.
  6. Use the Behairful Brush to create lift at the crown, and define individual curls around the top section and face-framing pieces.
  7. Scrunch out excess water with the HairRepear Towel. *Skip this if you want stronger hold*
  8. Glaze another light layer of gel over any frizzy areas.
  9. Diffuse until dry.
  10. Fluff and scrunch out the cast if desired.

Final Thoughts

I loved this combo! I had great definition, medium hold, and my curls stayed moisturized. I didn’t have quite as much volume as some of my previous routines though.

The Uncle Funky’s Daughter gel is definitely going to be in my rotation. I love how much slip it has, so I think it’s ideal for those with high porosity hair, damage, or just tangly hair in general. It also doesn’t contain any glycerin but has film-forming humectants like aloe which are ideal for a super dry climate to prevent moisture from escaping.

The cream is nice but nothing that blew me away. It did the job to moisturize my curls. I didn’t notice any major clumping with it. I could see it being too heavy of cream for those with fine hair because it contains shea butter.

For the Hairitage hair mask, it’s a great drugstore option! My curls were soft and moisturized. Again, I wasn’t blown away by any means but I would definitely reach for it again for all-drugstore routines.

Y’all already know I love the Noughty shampoo I featured in my last video, sharing my Top 10 Shampoos for Curls. It’s my go-to for a medium lather that cleanses really well without stripping my hair.
