Soft, Voluminous Curls Routine with Kerotin Haircare

This post is in partnership with Kerotin Haircare. All opinions are my own.

We’re switching it up for today’s wash day routine with a softer, more voluminous look. This routine is packed with tips for low density and thin hair because it creates fullness and plumpness within the hair. The light hold gives a soft, fluffy texture to the hair while maintaining curl definition.

Wash Day Routine Steps

  • Start by dry detangling to prevent breakage. Then wet hair and apply the Kerotin Freshening Conditioner to further detangle.
  • Apply the Kerotin Freshening Shampoo to the scalp and gently massage it in. Rinse.
  • Apply Kerotin Strengthening Mask and leave on for about 5 minutes before rinsing.
  • Wrap hair in a Hair Repear Towel for a few minutes, then spritz water on the ends and where needed.
  • Apply the Kerotin Leave-In Conditioner, focusing on the ends and working the rest upwards. Comb through.
  • Section hair and apply the Kerotin Styling Gel. Comb through and scrunch.
  • Scrunch in the Kerotin Volumizing Mousse for added fullness (optional)
  • Spritz the Kerotin Root Volumizer to add some hold and texture (optional)
  • Repeat the product application on all sections. For the top crown area, pick up horizontal sections and use a brush to lift the hair up and away from the scalp. For sparse areas at the crown, use a handheld mirror to view the back and position the hair to cover the scalp.
  • Diffuse or air dry
  • Fluff the roots once hair is dry for root lift and volume. Spritz any frizzy areas that form with the Root Volumizer.

Kerotin Freshening Shampoo & Conditioner

This shampoo and conditioner are designed to stimulate hair growth with natural ingredients. The shampoo clarifies to remove build-up from hair products, oil, and the environment that can clog hair follicles. It contains apple stem cells which claim to stimulate dormant hair follicles. The conditioner replenishes moisture with sea kelp extract, sunflower oil, argan oil, coconut oil, rosemary oil, and more. Both the shampoo and conditioner contain Hydrolyzed Keratin Protein, which reinforces weak hair without causing protein overload.

I thought the shampoo did a great job at thoroughly cleansing the scalp. I liked how I didn’t need to do apply the shampoo multiple times in order to fully get rid of build-up on my scalp. I prefer to apply a little conditioner to my hair prior to shampooing to prevent any tangles from forming and also help it feel softer. While I don’t think this shampoo is stripping, my hair did have that feel squeaky clean afterwards when not using some conditioner first. I think the shampoo and conditioner make a great pair to get a deep cleanse and replenish moisture.

Kerotin Freshening Mask

This mask is also part of the Freshening line so it contains Hydrolyzed Keratin Protein and Silk Amino Acids to strengthen weak, damaged hair. It also contains moisturizing ingredients for proper balance, including Aloe, Triglycerides, and Sea Kelp Extract. Conditioning ingredients include Argan Oil, Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, and more.

This is a protein-rich mask, so it’s recommended to leave it on for just 5 minutes and use it no more than twice per week. I thought the mask was a great option for my high porosity hair because it provided the protein that my hair needed without making it feel brittle. My hair is coarse-textured on the top section, so those areas can feel very brittle when using protein. This mask made it feel soft, moisturized, and shiny.

Kerotin Leave-In Conditioner & Styling Gel (Curly System)

The Curly System includes a leave-in conditioner and gel for moisture and curl definition. Both products in this line contain Hydrolyzed Keratin and Silk Amino Acids for strength and structure, as well as Aloe and Marshmallow Root Extract.

The leave-in conditioner provided my hair lots of moisture and help curl clumps. I was impressed at how easily it glided through my hair for detangling with lots of slip. While it is thick and moisturizing, it’s not too heavy and won’t weigh down your hair.

I think the gel is more of a curl definer that is best layered with other products because it provides curl definition but not any hold. The aloe is a film-forming humectant so it encourages curls and adds shine. It also has Jojoba Seed Oil which can help “seal” in moisture.

Kerotin Volumizing Mousse & Root Volumizer Spray (Volumizing System)

This duo is designed to boost volume & plump the hair strands with a unique ingredient called NaturePep® Amaranth, a natural plant source from ancient grain. The Volumizing Mousse contains Copolymer Vp/VA, giving the hair light hold and definition, and Aloe for moisture. The Root Volumizer Spray also contains Copolymer Vp/VA as well as Maltodextrin/Vp Copolymer for added soft hold. This spray also contains Maltodextrine, a natural sugar starch, coats each hair strand promoting a fuller appearance.

If you have fine or low density hair, this duo is a must-try. The mousse is more of a foam formula so I think it would be great for fine hair because it provides texture without weighing it down. Foams tend to plump the hair and encourage curl clumps, so I definitely thought my hair looked fuller. The Root Volumizer gives texture and “grit” to the hair and a soft cast. This would also work well at the roots for added volume.

Final Thoughts

My low-density hair looked much fuller and my curls were still defined. My hair texture is medium to coarse so it can tend to feel brittle and dry with too much protein. However, my hair did not get that “protein overload” feeling even when using this brand back to back for multiple wash days. I think they’re properly balanced to provide both strength and moisture.

While I usually go for strong hold for my high-porosity, frizzy hair, I wanted to switch it up and show you how to get a softer, more full appearance. Due to this routine not providing much of that “cast” or crunch, my hair did really soften up after about 8 hours of wear in the summer. By day 2, I needed to add more product and do a full refresh. The products do reactivate some with water so I didn’t have to layer much on for refreshing and could mainly use water.
