Everyone wants healthy looking hair that is strong and shiny, but with all the torture we put our hair through it seems impossible. Between blow drying, straightening, curling, coloring, over washing, our hair needs a little TLC. Of course you don’t have to completely give up your torture devices, but with a little extra care (and giving your hair a break), you can get healthy hair!
-First of all, try not to heat style your hair every single day. Try doing it every other. Plus since it is summer now, which means humidity, rain, pools, beach, etc. There’s no point in spending forever styling your hair when it is so hot out.
-Only shampoo your hair every other day if it is oily, and every two or three days if it is curly or dry. Just rinse your hair with water to get the products out, and use your daily conditioner. Your hair will still feel the same! Washing it everyday strips your hair of its natural oils, which keep it shiny and healthy. Also, use a sulfate-free shampoo like the ones from L’Oreal. Sulfates are used to make the shampoo lather up, but can be very drying. The L’Oreal ones still lather up nicely, but do not contain sulfates.
-Use a natural oil on your hair a few times a week before shampooing. Carol’s Daughter has an awesome oil called the Lisa’s Hair Elixir. You can use it as a deep hot oil treatment, or use it regularly before shampooing. I noticed a HUGE improvement in my hair after using this. Check out my review I did on the oil, and the blog post that goes with it.
-Use a deep conditioner (especially if you have curly hair) once a week. I really like the One N Only Argon Oil Restorative Mask. Mix that with a little of the Carol’s Daughter Oil and you have the best extreme conditioning mask! Let it sit for a good 10 minutes and you will notice a huge improvement in the texture of your hair.
-Nothing will get rid of split ends except cutting them! Products like the Carol’s Daughter Lisa’s Hair Elixir will help make hair stronger so it won’t break off more. It will aid in future breakage, but only cutting will get rid of them. Trim your hair about once a month to keep it healthy. It will grow faster too! Even though your hair grows from the roots, if the ends are dead and split, they will continue to split up the shaft and break off. So trimming them stops them in their tracks!
-Wait until your hair is dry to brush it, since hair is fragile when its wet. You can use a wide tooth comb when it is wet to prevent breakage. Hair doesn’t get caught in combs like it does brushes. Also, avoid wearing your hair up too much. You’d be surprised how much the hair breaks off from having it up tightly. If you do like it up, wear it loose with a soft elastic that does not have a metal piece.
-Take a vitamin to promote hair growth and strength. I LOVE the Nature’s Bounty Hair Skin and Nails vitamins. I have seen a big difference since taking these. I just bought my second bottle. My hair feels so much stronger, and has been growing so fast!
