After sharing the Curlsmith Gel Comparison video, I received so many requests to compare the creams. With so many options, choosing the curl cream or leave-in conditioner can be tough, especially if you’re just getting started with your curly hair journey. I used all 5 creams in the same routine with the same gel to best compare my results. For gel, I used the Curlsmith Styling Soufflé because it’s one of my favorites and provides medium to strong hold. With curl creams and leave-ins, it’s tough to really tell a difference, although I do see some subtle differences. Leave-ins are designed to provide extra moisture and prep the hair for styling. Curl creams also provide moisture but usually provide additional benefits to “style” the hair or enhance its appearance, such as curl definition, clumps, shine, etc.

Can you spot the differences?

For reference, my curl type is high porosity, medium/coarse texture, and low density. Although my hair is part coarse textured so it can benefit from heavier creams, it’s also thin/low density so it has less volume when using products with heavy butters and oils. The biggest differences I notice are my hair has more volume with the Weightless Air Dry Cream and less volume with the Oil-in-Cream.
