Sometimes the smallest details when you’re styling can make a difference in your wash day results. How you part your curls when they’re wet determines how they will lay all week, how much root lift and volume you get, and if your scalp is covered. Today I’m showing you 4 ways to part your naturally curly hair for more volume and root lift. These techniques are especially going to be beneficial if you have low-density hair or a cowlick and struggle to cover your scalp.

The side part is a classic hair parting technique if you want a clean line and some lift on one side. Create a line at an angle for more root lift. I kept the line only a few inches long and stopped right before the crown so I could take the crown hair back and cover my scalp better at the crown.
The middle part is a classic line down the middle of your hair. This method is a little less common because most people struggle to get volume. If you have thick hair, this can be a great option to try. Many people who have more proportional facial features tend to find the middle part flattering.
A zig-zag part has a unique shape that gives a messy look on top. To get the part to hold, it helps to create curl clumps on the sides to help the curls cling and hold in place.
Having no part is a flattering look for all curl types that give more volume and lift at the root. It’s tough to hold in place when your hair is used to falling into a part, so this may take time to train the curls to not part. Brush the hair back and scrunch right at the root upside down. To avoid your curls falling in your face, create a small 1 inch or less part in the very front and create ringlets with a brush so those front pieces cling to the hair.
