Glycerin Free Curly Hair Routine

Glycerin-Free Curly Hair Routine ft. Bouclème Anti-Humidity Seal & Shield

If your hair is sensitive to glycerin, you may experience very frizzy curls after styling when your hair is exposed to very humid or extremely dry weather. It can be next to impossible to find glycerin-free curly hair products because curls need moisture, and glycerin is a very powerful and effective humectant that draws water from the air.

My hair actually does great with glycerin because it’s very dry but I also struggle with humidity so I need products with glycerin to also be paired with sealing ingredients. While glycerin is not something I strive to avoid in my routine, so many of you have asked me for recommendations on glycerin-free products which is why I wanted to review the new Bouclème Seal & Shield line.

The Seal & Shield line contains a conditioner, curl cream, and a gel with ingredients that help to seal the hair’s cuticle, moisturize, and reduce frizz, such as Vitamin B5, Marula oil, Babassu oil, Cupuacu butter, and a sugar complex. While I’m a huge fan of polyquat ingredients for fighting humidity in my hair, they can build up on some hair types and can weigh down the hair. The Seal & Shield line contains natural ingredients to help seal that easily wash off the hair. It also contains aloe and is coconut-free.

My curls are naturally fairly dull, and I was struggling to get shine so I tried incorporating the Revive 5 Hair Oil. I tried a new layering technique where you apply your curl cream, then the oil, then the gel. I noticed more shine and softness with this technique. It can also help to lock in moisture.

Wash Day Routine

  1. Shampoo
  2. Condition with the Bouclème Seal & Shield Conditioner and thoroughly rinse it out
  3. Apply the Bouclème Seal & Shield Curl Cream to damp hair
  4. Apply the Bouclème Revive 5 Hair Oil, focusing on the ends and dry areas
  5. Section hair and thoroughly apply the Bouclème Seal & Shield Gel
  6. Brush style if desired and scrunch
  7. Scrunch out excess water with the Bouclème Hair Towel
  8. Diffuse until dry. Leave the gel cast in for more frizz protection.

Final Results

Before & After Boucleme Seal & Shield

After styling, my curls were moisturized, defined, and bouncy. I did notice an improvement in shine and moisture retention after adding in the hair oil. My curls didn’t have a ton of gel cast and seemed to have a medium hold.

I also tested these products several times in high humidity, and while my hair got frizzy my curls were still defined and looked good.

Refreshing was required on day 2 and beyond, but I didn’t have to add much product and could use just water and a little more gel.

Overall, I think this line is a great option for those looking for glycerin and coconut-free curly hair products. I think they’re also going to be a great option going into the colder months because they’re moisturizing and light to medium hold.
