Curl Definition Q&A

Curl Definition Q&A + Innersense Mega Hold Routine

Today we’re tackling all your problems related to getting a gel cast, frizz, and more in a Q&A styling routine. I’m also using an extreme hold foam from Innersense that is unlike anything I’ve ever tried.

Questions Answered

Below are the questions and problems I address in the video above.

  • Flakiness around the hairline, is it buildup
  • Should you use a curl cream or go straight to gel, what is it for
  • Brush styling makes curls go flat and straight
  • How to control frizzy hair at the roots
  • Can’t seem to form a gel cast no matter what you use
  • Rizos curl cream prevents hair from forming a gel cast
  • Microplopping creates frizz
  • Stringy curls at the bottom
  • Can’t get curls to stay longer

Routine

For this wash day routine, I am using all Innersense products. I just recently got a code from them, so you can save 15% off with code GENA15 now!

I have been testing out the new I Create Definition Foam in different ways and sharing my results over on my Instagram stories, which are all pinned to my story highlights if you want to check it out here.

This foam is tricky because it gives extreme hold and can make hair feel brittle if you don’t use a moisturizing cream underneath. It’s also really easy to use too much of it because it’s so lightweight, that it’s hard to tell that you have enough product in your hair when it’s wet. I’m so used to that sticky/slimy feeling from gel that lets me know that I have enough product in my hair. I knew I needed to apply it sparingly, but I still ended up using too much.

Results

I had crazy definition and extreme hold, which is great for those who struggle with getting a cast or if you want your curls to last for days. However, with my thin hair, it just made it look more sparse. I definitely used too much and I liked my previous results when I used it better. Microplopping before diffusing also helps to soak up any excess products.

When I refreshed on day 2, I removed some of the excess product by misting my hair with water and then scrunching with my towel, then diffused. This helped make it feel softer and it still dried down with some cast. By the end of day 2 and into day 3, my hair was pretty frizzy which was odd.

Next time, I’m going to try it with a light hold gel underneath and use the foam as just a very light glaze on top and see how that does. I’ll be sure to share that on my Instagram stories.

Have you found the perfect way to use the new Innersense foam? Please let me know!

  1. What do you recommend as a spray on to lock in moisture after I’ve styled my hair. I live in the desert and it’s very dry so my hair loses moisture as the day goes on and my curls lose their bouncy shinny look. TIA
