VIDEO: How to Apply Eyeshadow for Beginners

So I know I have done this video in the past, and I was shocked at the response it got. I did my first How to Apply Eyeshadow for Beginners video in my Back to Basics series that gave step-by-step instruction on all makeup techniques. However I felt the need to do an updated version after sorting through the feedback on that video. Many wanted a to see a brief instruction, and skip the product recommendations. I decided to include those in this blog post, instead of waste time on it in the video.

This look is ideal for those who are just getting started with makeup because its easy, and something that can be worn with any outfit, skin tone, or eye color. This method can be used with any set of eyeshadow colors you want to use. Its the basic template I use for every look I wear, unless I’m doing a more complex look. This tutorial will also be great for teens for an easy back-to-school makeup look.

Step 1: With the Sigma E55 Eye Shading Brush, apply a shimmery (or matte) light shadow all over your lid using patting motions.

Step 2: Next using a Sigma E35 Tapered Blending Brush, apply a matte medium toned shadow all throughout your crease. Hold your brush pointed straight towards your eye, and sweep it back and forth. Avoid taking the color too far towards your inner corner unless you have large eyes.

Step 3: Using a Sigma E45 Small Tapered Blending Brush, or E30 Pencil Brush, use a darker shadow on the outer V area of your crease. Use circular motions to blend the shadow into the previous color. Skip this step if you would like a more subtle, natural appearance.

Step 4: Next use a Sigma E30 Pencil brush and that same dark shadow and smudge it on your lower lash line, connecting it to the outer corner of the top lid. Avoid going too far in with this step if you have small eyes.

Step 5: Lastly, use a blending brush to apply a matte skin tone shadow all over your brow bone. This helps finish off the look and helps to blend darker colors. I would also recommend the Sigma E40 Tapered Blending for this step, and just overall blending.
