One of the most asked questions I get is what type of gel is right for your curl type. Brands like Curlmsith offer a variety of gel formulas with unique benefits, so I know it can be tough to know which one to get. For today’s video, I’m going to be compared them all side-by-side and breaking down the different ingredients, benefits, and showing you the difference in my results from each. I’d love to continue doing these comparisons, so let me know if you have any requests for comparisons within the same brand, or even comparing 2 separate brands that are similar.

Can you spot the differences? Which one is your favorite?
It’s really hard for me to choose a favorite here. I love the look of my hair with the Shape Up Aqua Gel because it gives a softer look, so I look like I have more fullness and volume. However, I really like the hold level of the Hydro Style Flexi Jelly. I do need more time testing that one out though because I think I can get better results than I got with this particular wash day using the Flexi Jelly.
Before trying out the Flexi Jelly, the Soufflé was my favorite because I found that I got the best hold out of that one. I’ve recently realized discovered though that the Soufflé can give you a stringy look if you apply too much, which I think I’ve done in the past. You do get more hold though when you apply more of all of these gels.
Considering I love strong hold, I’m surprised that the In-Shower Style Fixer is not my favorite. I think because of the thick formula and the number of oils that it contains, it weighs my hair down a little bit and I get very stringy results. However, it the only Curlsmith gel that has humidity blocking ingredients. I might experiment more with that one this summer.
Also note that the same cream was used in all of these photos underneath of the gel. I paired them with the Hold Me Softly Style Balm.
Here are videos where I used each one so you can see them in action:

I would love to know if you experiment more with the in-shower style fixer! I am always torn between protein, moisture, and frizz-control. I have high porosity hair with coarse hair underneath and more medium hair on top. My medium hair gets soooo frizzy, especially in the summer. I was told to avoid humectants like glycerin but then I wonder if because the in-shower style fixer has that anti-humidity ingredient, if maybe I just need to try that one again. Because my hair on top tends to have lazy waves that really require hold, I feel like I need to give it another try. I also had given up with the soufflé but after seeing your great results, I think I’ll give that one another try. I also agree about the aqua gel, I love the consistency and slip!
