Beauty Tip of the Week: Prevent Makeup from Melting

*image from here

It seems next to impossible to keep your makeup on all day with this hot summer heat. As soon as the you step out into the humidity you can just feel your foundation melt off, your eyeshadow and concealer creasing, or your eyeliner smearing. These are all pesky problems, especially when your trying to have a good time in the summer and not worry about touching up your makeup. I have learned a few ways to keep my makeup on all day, and not fade off. These are also good things to keep in mind if you are going to be spending the day at the beach or pool.

Foundation

-Start off with a good face primer. Face primer is going to make your foundation go on a lot smoother and stay put. If you are oily, go for a mattifying one. My skin can be a but dry, so I like the L’Oreal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base. It makes a huge difference.

-Its good to go very light for the summer, so just use a powder on the areas where you get oily if you don’t need that much coverage. The MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural is good for that. If you want to wear foundation or if you need more coverage, wear a matte mineral foundation. I LOVE my Bare Minerals Matte Foundation. It is a full coverage foundation, and it stays put all day. It doesn’t make your face feel like you have foundation on, and it doesn’t clog up my pores as bad. If you really like liquid foundation, go for a waterproof one like Makeup Forever’s Waterproof foundation. When using liquid, always set it with a powder!

Bronzer & Blush

-I absolutely love my NARS Laguna bronzer, and I don’t have a problem with it fading off. However, if you do, try a waterproof bronzer like Tarte’s Matte Waterproof Bronzer.

-For blush, I think that cream blushes stay on a lot longer. My favorites are the NYX Rouge Cream Blushes. They blend in really nicely and stay put. Some people say they melt off, so if you have a problem with that then set them with a powder blush that matches (or even a translucent powder) for maximum staying power.

Eyeshadow

-I wouldn’t recommend wearing eyeshadow if you are going to be in the water. Its not really necessary and is likely to come right off. But if your just going to be out in the heat, try using a cream eyeshadow, and set it with a powder eyeshadow or dust it with translucent powder.

-ALWAYS always use an eyeshadow primer. They will keep all shadows from creasing, and make them look vibrant. I love the Urban Decay Primer Potion, or a cheaper alternative is the ELF Mineral Eyeshadow Primer (only $3!)

Eyeliner & Mascara

-I did another Beauty Tip of the Week on How to Prevent Eyeliner and Mascara from Smudging. You can read all about that here.

-Basically, set all eyeliners with a powder eyeshadow to keep them on. And use waterproof eyeliners and mascara. Avoid putting pencil or cream eyeliner in the outer corners of the eyes because that’s where it seems to smudge more. Read that post for much more on this!

Lipstick & Lipgloss

-Once again, I have done a Beauty Tip of the Week on How to Get Long Lasting Lip Color. Check that out for tons of tips.

-Basically, apply a powder around your lips to keep color from bleeding. Also, stick to matte lipsticks or lip stains, since they last longer. Try just using a lip liner and lip balm for a long wearing lip color.

-I also have a post on How to Heal Chapped Lips.

Remember, keep makeup minimal in the summer. On a daily basis for the heat I like to stick to: primer, mineral foundation, bronzer, blush, gel eyeliner, and mascara. And that’s it! Let me know if you would like to see a video tutorial on this simple summer look!

  1. Great tips! Make-up melting is definitely a downside of the hot weather. I'm loving Benetint at the moment as it's so long lasting and doesn't feel heavy. x
